English Translation v0.3

This download is a partial translation of Village of Nightmare. It goes up to about a third of the game (at my guessimation), and includes the corruption scenes of the innkeeper (Souffle), the bartender (Mint), the peddler siblings (Kukuru and Kukuri), the dancer (Dagger), the blond bar patron (Pastel), and the blacksmith (Metallica), as well numerous general stuff around town and one of the bad(?) endings. There are several things to note about this translation, and if you're curious or are having problems playing, you might want to take a look.


1) On the matter of installation, there are two things you need to be aware of: The first is that you're going to need to have the RPG Maker XP RTP installed to play this no matter what. (Google it and you should be able to find a download, and any fixes to problems with the dlls involved with it.) The second is that this game isn't fully localized. You're very likely going to need to switch your computer to Japanese locale before unzipping the game. The reason being that the game data is going to try and look for specific image file names that are in Japanese, and if it doesn't find them, it's going to crash. I've heard that some people were able to bypass this with AppLocale, but I wasn't able to myself.

2) Related to 1, due to me not being able to find a Japanese copy of RPG Maker XP to fiddle with (and in fact, couldn't find a workable pirate copy of RMXP at ALL), I went with the English demo, which doesn't like Japanese text that much. Thus, all the untranslated text was reduced to just a bunch of squares when playing. If you want to continue playing with the Japanese text, you can download the original version and move your save files over. They should work fine.

3) Related to 2, since I'm using the English demo, I only have a limited amount of time to actually translate all of this game before it stops working. (The exact date for it to stop working is about January 13th.) So unless I can get a pirate copy working, that's when my efforts will stop if I don't finish the translation before my time limit runs out. This issue has been fixed thanks to a kind anon.


4) Lastly, on the game itself, it should be noted that the interface is extremely obtuse at times. It'd be a good idea to use a walkthrough, or you're going to face a lot of aimless, boring wandering. I'm planning on making one later, but for now, this guy has most stuff right, although a few spots are kind of off. (You need to talk to Chris to continue Brigitte's corruption when the time comes, and Slayer/Daiya's second scene with Metallica won't pop up until after she's done.)

5) Also related to gameplay is the squirrel section. If you have problems with the area, check the sign at the beginning and take the irritant. It will remove about 90% of the annoying, more likely to run into ones.
