Progress [12/30/11]

This is for people curious on how far along I am, and how much is left to work translate. I'm pretty much going to be copy+pasting this thing every time. Although for this update, it's good to note that I consider the Tsubame and Mayfair section to be one of the longer corruptions in the game, and I'm surprised at how fast I've been getting through it.

Anyway, due to the fact that I can't actually give an accurate percentage of what's left thanks to the shitty format of RPG Maker, this all basically off my guessing, so I'm not going to be giving hard numbers. Instead, I'll be noting each corruption person or group, and how far along they are. There are some miscellaneous other scenes not about sex or corruption per se, but I've also included those too.

English Translation v1.1

EDIT: This patch is now outdated. Please refer to the v2.0 release post.

This is a complete translation of Village of Nightmare. The full English-localized game is included in the download. This game requires that you have the RPG Maker XP RTP installed to play it (make sure you download the XP version, not the VX version). However, it should no longer require that you have your computer set to Japanese locale.

Due to the game's obtuse interface, I highly recommend you use a walkthrough unless you like aimless, boring wandering to click on everybody you can think of to try and advance the story. I've posted such a walkthrough over here and I've tried to keep it fairly spoiler-free, but it does still contain some.

If you've played either the v0.3 or v0.6 releases and want to continue from your saves, you're going to need to move 宿屋の娘04(眼鏡なし).png and/or 宿屋の娘02.png from the previous release to the new release's graphics/pictures folder temporarily, as the previous saves will want to look for those files before it registers the new programming. Once you save again on those files, the Japanese image files shouldn't be necessary anymore.

If during play you run across any errors, text or programming, please go ahead and post about them and I'll see if I can't try and fix them. The format of the game does not allow me to spell check my work easily, and it leaves things quite open to mistakes.

Finally, to all the people who have already helped with spotting errors in the text, of special note being KMZ who gave me a hefty word document full of them with notation for easier use... thank you. You made this project quite a bit more polished than it would have otherwise been.

EDIT: And now 1.1, which is quite a small change. Just some grammatical fixes and sorting out the errors in the recollection room.

English Translation v0.7

EDIT: v0.71 now available. Fixes some problems with a few image files with Kukuru, Theresia and the cow girl.

I wasn't planning on doing another release until the entire translation was done, but due to the sudden influx of comments on having trouble just getting the game to play, I decided to halt my lagging translation efforts momentarily and just focus on localizing the game. I recently finished those efforts, so here you are.

Besides the localized image files, there are some other minor fixes, and a handful of lines newly translated, but beyond that, this is the same as v0.6. In other words, pretty much everything is translated at this point except the novelist (Stone), the guard captain (Erdin), the Exorcist and the final corruptions, and a couple miscellaneous scenes such Slayer and Metallica's date, as well as the developer's room.

If you've played one of the previous releases and want to continue from your saves, you're going to need to move 宿屋の娘04(眼鏡なし).png and/or 宿屋の娘02.png from your the previous release to the new release's graphics/pictures folder temporarily, as the previous saves will want to look for those files before it registers the new programming. Once you save again on those files, the Japanese image files shouldn't be necessary anymore.

And on an important (for me) somewhat reiterated side note, if you spot any problems such as grammatical errors, sudden bits of untranslated text in sections that should be translated, or bits of dialogue that don't flow particularly well, I'd be happy if you could post about them so I could attempt to fix them. (To be more concise: please tell me what's wrong, and where you encountered the problem.) The format of the game does not allow me to spell check, so I can only do it manually, which generally is hit or miss.

There are a couple things to note about this translation, and if you're curious or are having problems playing, you might want to take a look.

English Translation v0.6

EDIT: This patch is now outdated. Please refer to the v1.0 release post.

For anybody who had issues with the game not finding certain image files and generally not showing the right pictures while playing the v0.6 release, please try out v0.7. Barring any mistakes I might have made in localizing it, it should work fine even on English locale now.

(And if you do run into anymore problems with the image files, please post about it. At this point, it's likely something I missed, so if I'm informed of it, I should be able to fix it.)

This download is a partial translation of Village of Nightmare. Pretty much every is translated at this point except the novelist (Stone), the guard captain (Erdin), the Exorcist and the final corruptions, and a couple miscellaneous scenes such Slayer and Metallica's date, as well as the developer's room. I'd originally thought to include the novelist in this update, but decided not to since I was having a harder time just concentrating on it instead of bouncing between several of the later scenes.

If you've played the v0.3 release and want to continue from your saves, just copy+paste them into the new folder. They should work fine. And on an important (for me) somewhat reiterated side note, if you spot any problems such as grammatical errors, or bits of dialogue that don't flow particularly well, I'd be happy if you could post about them so I could attempt to fix them. This download is a partial translation of Village of Nightmare. It goes up to about a third of the game (at my guessimation), and includes the corruption scenes of the innkeeper (Souffle), the bartender (Mint), the peddler siblings (Kukuru and Kukuri), the dancer (Dagger), the blond bar patron (Pastel), and the blacksmith (Metallica), as well numerous general stuff around town and one of the bad(?) endings. There are several things to note about this translation, and if you're curious or are having problems playing, you might want to take a look.
